The Science
What Are Autologous Exosomes?
Exosomes are nanoscale extracellular vesicles, typically ranging from 30 to 150 nanometers in diameter. They are secreted by virtually all cell types and are abundantly present in peripheral blood. They act as true regulators of intercellular communication, carrying a complex cargo of proteins, lipids, messenger RNA, and microRNAs that directly influence the behavior of target cells.
In the field of tissue regeneration, exosomes coordinate essential biological processes such as the resolution of inflammation, cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and extracellular matrix remodeling. EXOSMART® Concept
During the centrifugation step of PRP or bone marrow concentrate, exosomes are released from cells and remain suspended in the plasma.
Exosomes are also released during the washing and microfragmentation steps of adipose tissue processing.
exosmart® is designed to process and ultrafilter the plasma or physiological solution contained in the collection bag, allowing the recovery of released exosomes as well as other biologically active components.
The technology is based on an ultrafiltration membrane with a molecular weight cut-off of approximately 15 kDa and an average perfusion pore diameter of less than 5 nm. Thanks to its selective concentration capacity, water and low molecular weight ions pass through the membrane, while exosomes, proteins, cytokines, and cells are retained and concentrated.
Under the pressure generated by the syringes, biological components flow through the hundreds of microcavities within the exosmart® system. At the end of the procedure, the concentrated exosomes, cells, and cytokines are fully recovered in the syringe.
The fundamental principle of exosmart® is the complete reinfusion of the patient’s own autologous cells, cytokines, and exosomes.
